Rumor: Rockets, Nets must find 3rd team to make a James Harden trade happen

James Harden trade, Nets, Rockets

Houston Rockets star James Harden still wants a trade as he finally joins the team for practice, but nothing is imminent at this time as discussions haven’t gone anywhere. While Harden would prefer a trade to the Brooklyn Nets, a deal would likely require a third team in order to get done, per ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Rockets reportedly aren’t convinced of a trade involving Nets complementary players and draft assets in exchange for the services of the 2018 NBA MVP. Brooklyn has no interest in including Kyrie Irving in a trade for Harden, while Houston apparently hasn’t even asked about the star point guard’s availability after recently trading for John Wall.

If a third team with a young star is willing to get involved in the talks, that could entice the Rockets to make a deal. But for now, there’s nothing happening on that front.

As for a potential trade with the Philadelphia 76ers, they continue to be unwilling to include either Joel Embiid or Ben Simmons in a deal. New Sixers president Daryl Morey has expressed confidence in his new-look group around his stars and wants to see how they perform. Morey’s stance on this could very well change, but for now, those All-Stars doesn’t appear to be on the table.

The Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks are also on Harden’s trade list.

With no trade on the horizon just yet, James Harden will join the Rockets and be professional as they look to find a suitable deal. He made some hubbub last week by reporting late to training camp after a week of partying, but he did finally report and should be taking the practice floor on Monday. Houston should still field a competitive team with Harden around and Wall looking good so far in his return, so there’s no rush to make a deal, even with The Beard asking out.
