Rumor: Rockets interested in Paul George

Paul George, Thunder

The 2017-18 NBA season may have ended for the Houston Rockets, however, they have wasted no time in shifting gears toward the offseason. Point guard Chris Paul has reportedly already gotten a head start on recruiting Cleveland Cavaliers small forward LeBron James.

Now it appears Houston may have another superstar on their radar in free agency. According to Kelly Iko of the Rockets Wire, the Rockets may attempt to bring in Oklahoma City Thunder small forward Paul George:

In addition to the Rockets’ longstanding interest in free agent-to-be LeBron James, another noteworthy longtime target of general manager Daryl Morey is Paul George, two league sources told Rockets Wire.

Needless to say, Houston has set the bar even higher moving forward. As a result, it appears no superstar set to hit the market will be off-limits for them.

The addition of George would undoubtedly be an intriguing one for a number of reasons. For starters, it would give the Rockets some much-needed star power to help them get over the hump in the Western Conference Finals. His versatile skill set would make him an easy fit in Houston’s offense. It would also give them another formidable defender alongside Paul.

Unfortunately, the notion of them being able to sign George seems a bit far-fetched at this point. The Los Angeles Lakers are currently pegged as the favorites to land his services this summer. Meanwhile, there are reports that an extension with Oklahoma City could already be in the works. That said, it will be interesting to see if the Rockets are able to form their own superstar trio for next season.
