One of the biggest names that has emerged in the free agency market of late is that of veteran big man DeMarcus Cousins. A new report has now emerged linking the four-time All-Star to a potential move to the Houston Rockets.
This report comes via The Athletic’s Kelly Iko:
In addition to Christian Wood, the Rockets spoke with Demarcus Cousins’ camp earlier today, a source told @TheAthletic. Houston is exploring the big man market.

Cousins has not exactly had the best past couple of years, as the 30-year-old dealt with multiple injuries over the past two seasons. The last one came in the form of an ACL injury prior to the start of the 2019-20 campaign, which ended up costing him the entire year.
It was the Los Angeles Lakers that gambled on Cousins last summer, signing the two-time All-NBA team member to a one-year deal worth $3.5 million. Unfortunately, Cousins was not able to play a single game for L.A. because of the aforementioned knee injury. He was eventually waived by the Lakers in February.
The last time we saw Cousins take the floor was during the tail end of the 2018-19 season with the Golden State Warriors. After a lengthy spell on the sidelines, he was able to suit up for a total of 30 regular season games for the Dubs, averaging 16.3 points (on 48.0 percent shooting), 8.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.5 blocks in 25.7 minutes per contest. He was never able to return to full fitness, but it did appear as though he still had a lot of gas left in the tank.
As for the Rockets, their interest in Cousins — as well as their signing of free agent Christian Wood — is a clear indication of their intention to abandon the small ball style of play. With both James Harden and Russell Westbrook likely on their way out of Houston, Cousins could potentially find himself with a substantial role for a revamped Rockets side.
