RUMOR: Rockets exploring trade for mid-lottery pick

Daryl Morey, James Harden

It’s a very well-known fact that Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has an insatiable desire to take down the Golden State Warriors and bring a championship parade in downtown Houston. This Thursday’s NBA Draft could help the Rockets achieve those goals, but not by much considering that they do not have a first-round pick. They own the 16th pick in the second round (no. 46 overall), but that’s too far for them to get a blue-blooded prospect.

However, according to Steven Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Rockets are exploring options to secure a mid-lottery pick via a trade.

Some Draft Scuttle from New York – The Houston Rockets apparently are exploring a trade that would get them a mid-lottery pick. Rockets apparently tried to get players in for workouts yesterday and today.

The Rockets do not have plenty of assets in their hands, though, they could build a package around someone like Eric Gordon. Ryan Anderson could be traded also but he’s due for $41.2 million over the next two years, so shipping him as a stand-alone asset is definitely not going to work.

Morey is as creative of a general manager as any, so his ability to concoct a deal that would land the Rockets a high draft pick is one that should not be underestimated.
