Rumor: Rockets continue to have interest in Nick Young

Nick Young

Recent NBA champion Nick Young is enjoying his offseason despite remaining unsigned, but his continued free agency is not necessarily from a lack of interest. There are six teams interested in Young’s services, including the Houston Rocketsper Mark Berman of Fox 26 KRIV.

Young would be an interesting fit in Houston. He’s always been a solid outside shooter and he could fit well into their system. The Rockets utilize a lot of pick-and-roll action with James Harden and Chris Paul.

While Harden and Paul break down opposing defenses by driving through the lane, shooters find space on the perimeter to keep the defense stretched. Young could fit well into the role of spot up shooter for the Rockets, a team that shoots more three’s than any other in the NBA.

Young is a career 38 percent three-point shooter. Additionally, he could help fill the void left by Trevor Ariza. Although Ariza is a much better defender than Young, Ariza has only shot 35 percent clip from three in his career.

And, there’s no chance that Swaggy P would have missed all nine of his three-point attempts in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals if he were in Ariza’s shoes. In fact, Ariza was an abysmal 20 percent from deep during the Western Conference Finals. He was just 2-for-18 in the final two games of the series as the Rockets blew their chance to upset the Warriors.

Young has always shot the ball well during his career. Although the rest of his game leaves something to be desired, Swaggy P can certainly fill a vital role on Houston’s roster.
