RUMOR: Rockets believe DeAndre Jordan wants to return home this summer

Rockets, DeAndre Jordan

Members of the Houston Rockets reportedly believe center DeAndre Jordan wants to return home this summer, according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic.

Jordan was born in Houston and becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

The Rockets are reportedly trying to trade Clint Capela and could have a need at center if they are able to move him.

This isn’t the first time DeAndre Jordan’s been linked to Houston nor will it be the last if he doesn’t end up in a Rockets uniform. He’s reportedly drawn interest from Los Angeles, New York and Brooklyn — with the latter two seen as recruiting tactics. Team sources still believe Jordan wants to return home, and that could strengthen if Capela is moved. He’s still close with (Chris) Paul, and extremely close with (Jimmy) Butler should that move materialize.

Jordan split time this past season with the Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks. The high-flyer averaged 11.0 points, 13.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 69 games while shooting 64.1 percent from the field and a career-high 70.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Jordan and Chris Paul were teammates on the Los Angeles Clippers. The 30-year-old made $22.9 million in 2018-19, but he likely won’t command that much money on the open market this summer.

It will be interesting to see if the Rockets are able to land Jordan, who has career averages of 9.6 points and 10.9 rebounds.
