RUMOR: Rockets’ asking price for P.J. Tucker, revealed

PJ Tucker Rockets trade rumors

The Houston Rockets could be sellers at the trade deadline, with P.J. Tucker clearly having his name as a trade candidate in the coming weeks. While the Rockets seem to be open for business, they are reportedly asking for a young player in return for Tucker, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Seeing that the Rockets haven’t had the season they envisioned, it’s best for them to begin looking toward the future. Even though he isn’t a prolific scorer or star, there are a handful of teams like the Brooklyn Nets, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Denver Nuggets, the Miami Heat, and the Los Angeles Lakers expressing interest in his services.

A trade involving Tucker could be contingent on what Houston wants for the veteran forward, which appears to be a young player. With that in mind, the Nets may not have much to offer for Tucker as they don’t have many expendable pieces to deal after acquiring James Harden.

Given the level of player that Tucker is, a team likely doesn’t want to part ways with a young player who they believe has much potential. At the same time, some teams believe the 35-year-old Tucker can provide them with some aid in the frontcourt, especially on the defensive end.

The Rockets have already waived DeMarcus Cousins due to their desire to go in a more youthful direction moving forward. While Tucker’s departure seems inevitable, the timing of a trade involving the North Carolina native depends on the level of young player that Houston is looking for in a trade involving Tucker.
