Rumor: LeBron James would also listen to Spurs, Heat; won’t rule out Lakers, Rockets, Cavs

LeBron James

The LeBron James sweepstakes has already started, and the 2017-18 season isn’t even close to being over.

It’s already been reported that James would be willing to take a meeting with the defending champion Golden State Warriors this summer during free agency. That news basically broke the entire internet, and now everyone is thinking the Warriors are going to win the next 47 billion championships.

But that’s not all. Chris Haynes of ESPN, who broke the initial news, told a radio show in Los Angeles that James is willing so meet with a slew of teams, including the Lakers, per Jorge Sedano of ESPN.

Look at some of those teams again. The San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Warriors. The internet — Cleveland Cavaliers fans in particular — must be screaming and buying lighter fluid to burn their James jerseys already.

But James is the best player in the NBA. He might even be the best player to ever play basketball. He has endured plenty in his 15 years in the league, and been the consummate professional throughout his career.

In light of all that, James deserves to be a free agent and choose wherever he wants to go. And those teams mentioned by Haynes represent some of the best chances for him to win another championship, which is his main priority.

Fans may think James is chasing rings. Or not being competitive enough. Or not being loyal to the Cavaliers and his home state of Ohio. But in reality, James has the agency to do what he wants, and if he wants to join the Warriors or the Rockets, let him.
