Rumor: Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks’ level of interest in James Harden trade

Bucks, James Harden, Giannis Antetokounmpo

James Harden’s time with the Houston Rockets is at a stalemate, with the superstar guard wanting a trade to a championship contender but the Rockets demanding a hefty ransom for his services. The Milwaukee Bucks are one such contender Harden reportedly has on his trade list.

Be that as it may, the interest level doesn’t seem to be mutual on Milwaukee’s side when it comes to obtaining the services of Harden, and Giannis Antetokounmpo evidently has had a say in that as well.

Via The Athletic’s Sam Amick:

In this mini-offseason that just passed, he [Antetokounmpo] played a part in the Bucks’ pursuit of everyone from Jrue Holiday to Victor Oladipo to Bogdan Bogdanovic. So, is Harden now on that proverbial list? Bucks sources say no. Harden, it seems, is not seen as a good fit for this Bucks culture that has been so carefully curated by Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, general manager Jon Horst, coach Mike Budenholzer and so many others.

It goes without saying that Harden would bring a tremendous talent upgrade to the Bucks’ roster, but how well he would mesh with Giannis would be a major question mark. It’s no secret that Harden and Antetokounmpo traded shots at one another last season as part of their MVP beef.

Keeping that in mind, there’s no definite answer as to whether or not Harden and Antetokounmpo could or couldn’t coexist successfully on the floor together, but it does put a huge hurdle in the way of Harden coming to Milwaukee. The Greek Freak obviously has a major say in the Bucks’ direction, especially now that he just signed a supermax extension.

As it stands, no deal is imminent anywhere for the disgruntled Rockets superstar. It certainly appears as if Houston will start the season with Harden on the roster.
