Rumor: Chris Paul has already started to recruit LeBron James
It’s barely been two days since the Houston Rockets were eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in a painful Game 7, falling a game shy of the NBA Finals. Yet point guard Chris Paul has already gotten the wheels turning to recruit more help for Clutch City.
Paul was reportedly devastated, described as a “sad puppy dog” by his own brother C.J. after the Rockets lost the last two games of the series against the defending champions, but it seems the perennial floor general has set his sights in the biggest free agent available this offseason — LeBron James.
“Rest assured that the Rockets’ understandably devastated Chris Paul — who made a fast exit from Toyota Center late Monday night after being forced to watch the biggest game of his life from the bench because of his hamstring injury — has already begun his recruitment of James to Houston.”
James landing in Houston would set the precedent for the next superteam, but given the cap situation after giving Harden a supermax deal last offseason and still having the impending contracts of Paul and Clint Capela to deal with over the offseason would prove an easy improbability for this to take place this summer.
Kudos to Paul for trying, but it’s highly unlikely that James would come West and take significantly less at this stretch of his career, while being the best player among Paul and Harden.
The Rockets will need help, but James is so far from a reality that at this point, that recruiting call is just some wishful thinking.
