Rockets will match any offer sheet for Clint Capela

The Houston Rockets are slated to match any offer sheet for restricted free agent Clint Capela, who is bound to get plenty of suitors for his services as one of the NBA’s fastest-growing talents, according to Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports.

Capela is the biggest name on the free agent market now that DeMarcus Cousins and DeAndre Jordan have found homes with the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks, respectively.

The Swiss international posted the best all-around numbers of his young career, averaging 13.9 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game, showing a vast improvement after every season he’s spent with the Rockets.

Capela has gone from a mere backup to Dwight Howard to forging his way into the lineup, now seen as a vital piece as his offensive game has developed. He is constantly a lob target of the All-Star backcourt of James Harden and Chris Paul.

The 24-year-old has also continued to improve at the foul line after shooting a ghastly 17.4 percent in his rookie year, improving to 56 percent last season.

His offensive instincts have caught up with his motor and defensive ability, making him a more well-rounded player and a definite asset for Houston, no matter how deep into the luxury tax the Rockets could be after matching an offer sheet.
