Rockets will air video tribute for Wizards’ Trevor Ariza

Trevor Ariza, Rockets. Wizards

The Houston Rockets have scheduled a tribute video for Trevor Ariza when they face his new team, the Washington Wizards.

According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, the tribute video for Trevor Ariza will run during the first timeout of the game’s opening quarter.

In the offseason, Ariza left the Rockets and signed a one year, $15 million dollar contract with the Phoenix Suns. Last year, the 33-year-old swingman was an integral part of the Rockets’ high-octane and fast-paced offensive scheme under Mike D’Antoni. His ability to guard elite players on the wing while shooting efficient from deep made Ariza so vital to D’Antoni’s offense.

After the Suns proved to be not the right fit for Ariza, the franchise decided they should deal the veteran away for younger, future assets. They did so by trading Ariza to the Washington Wizards for small forward Kelly Oubre Jr. and guard Austin Rivers. The Suns ended up waiving Rivers.

That trade actually failed to work the first time, as the Suns and the Wizards attempted to add the Memphis Grizzlies as the third team in the deal. The Grizzlies and Wizards failed to communicate properly whether Dillon Brooks or MarShon Brooks would be included. Eventually, the whole deal fell apart. That’s when the Suns and Wizards swapped Ariza and Oubre without the Grizzlies.

The Houston Rockets are 15-14 on the season and are currently sitting ninth in the Western Conference. They face off against the Washington Wizards this upcoming Wednesday evening.
