The Houston Rockets have actively tried to construct their roster to compete with the Golden State Warriors. So far in the season, their unique formula of surrounding shooters around two central playmakers have worked efficiently. Currently, the Rockets are 41-13 in the season. They are one game behind the Golden State Warriors for the best record in the Western Conference. Still, the Rockets don’t appear to be slowing down on their acquisitions. Per ESPN’s Kelly Iko, the Rockets are aggressively interested in signing Kosta Koufos and Mo Speights if they are bought out.
Houston has long been trying to upgrade its big man depth, so the Brandan Wright report shouldn’t come as a surprise—Per a league source, there was also interest in Kosta Koufos and Maurice Speights, had buyout agreements been reached.
Both of these potential acquisitions for the Rockets are definitely interesting. Kosta Koufos, who currently plays for the Sacramento Kings, is averaging 6 points and 6 rebounds a game. The 7’0 center is a remarkable traditional center, but his lack of speed and quickness could be a problem for the Rockets’ rotation if they elect to sign him. Similarly, Wright is an outstanding center that can boost the Rockets’ second unit. Thought, he has already indicated that he intends to pursue a buyout and head to the Rockets.
Wright is averaging 5 points and 3.4 rebounds. With only a few spots open, the Rockets only have the room to get at least two of these players. These acquisitions may match up well against the Warriors, who lack a true center, but the defending champions are still the favorites to win the 2018 NBA Championship.
