Rockets to meet with restricted free agent Clint Capela in L.A. today
The free agency wire is bound to garner some attention for some of the premiere big men, as DeAndre Jordan quickly agreed to sign with the Dallas Mavericks for a flexible one-year deal, and DeMarcus Cousins is bound to strike meetings with the New Orleans Pelicans, and his biggest suitor, the Los Angeles Lakers.
Capela is one of the biggest RFAs in the market along with Aaron Gordon and Julius Randle, after posting his best season with the Rockets, a career-high 13.9 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game throughout the season.
The hard-working athletic big has made himself into more than just a rotation piece, but a valuable log target for the All-Star backcourt of MVP James Harden and the recently-locked Chris Paul.
Capela came from being a backup to Dwight Howard, to slowly inching his way into more and more minutes, eventually finding his niche with the team, now a valuable piece they must retain in hopes to keep their championship hopes alive.
The Rockets will have to watch the length and value of his contract very closely, as they are bound to go into the luxury tax with two max contracts in their backcourt, and having already lost one of their starters in Trevor Ariza to the Phoenix Suns on a one-year deal.
