Rockets still all-in to get LeBron James

LeBron James

The biggest storyline going into free agency is where exactly is LeBron James going to land. One of the major players is the Houston Rockets, and although Rockets players are saying they don’t need to get him to compete for the NBA Finals, they are still all in trying to land the superstar.

It remains possible that James could opt in to his current deal and force a trade to a team like the Rockets by making it clear that he’ll opt out and leave in free agency if the Cavs don’t comply. And while Houston is considered a longshot to land James, that isn’t about to keep Rockets general manager/newly-named Executive of the Year Daryl Morey from trying.

According to a person with knowledge of their situation, the Rockets are still all in on pursuing James – even if Harden made it clear that it was hardly a necessity. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity.

After winning the NBA MVP award James Harden told the media that he thinks they can compete with the team they have. He also talked about it being Chris Paul’s first year with the team, and this offseason is another chance for the team to grow closer.

Harden seems to be saying all the right things in case the Rockets don’t land James, but there is no doubt in the back of his mind he would love to have “The King” come on board. James might just be the missing piece they need to get by the Golden State Warriors.
