Rockets star Russell Westbrook moves to 19th on the all-time assists list

Russell Westbrook, Rockets

Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook has moved to 19th on the NBA’s all-time assists list.

Westbrook passed NBA icon Bob Cousy on the list. If everything works well for the former MVP, then he has a chance to break into the top 15 assist leaders of all-time. Rajon Rondo of the Los Angeles Lakers is up next followed by Tony Parker.

For his career, Westbrook is averaging 8.4 assists per game. While many see Westbrook as an explosive guard who can seemingly score at will, his playmaking has been pretty outstanding as well.

For every season in his entire career, he has never averaged under five dimes per game. He led the league in assists in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. Moreover, in the last five seasons, he has ranked in the top five in assists per game.

So far, he is averaging 9.2 assists per contest — the first time he is averaging single digits in assists since the 2014-15 season. This is not a sign of a decline in his vision and playmaking though, as he is sharing the floor and point guard duties with childhood friend and fellow Rockets star James Harden.
