Rockets star Chris Paul eyes potential return on Friday vs. Raptors

Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul could return as soon as Friday night against the Toronto Raptors, according to Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle.

Paul has been ramping up his workouts in recent days after missing more than a month with a bothersome hamstring injury, sitting out 16 games in the process.

“If it’s not Friday (against the Raptors), it’s Sunday (against the Magic,)” head coach Mike D’Antoni said. “If it’s not Sunday, it’s Monday (against the Pelicans.) But it’s close.”

It looks like Paul’s return is no longer a matter of weeks, but days — hopefully giving this team a much-needed boost in order to make a playoff push in the second half of the season.

The day in which he returns will be based on how he responds during practice, as the medical staff determines if he’s fit to play.

This has been somewhat of a down season for the dime maestro, as he has averaged 15.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists, and 2.1 steals per game, playing in only 26 of the team’s 47 games this season.

At 33 years old, Paul is shooting the worst percentage of his career at 41.5 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from deep, hoping to regain his effectiveness upon returning to the lineup.
