Rockets star Chris Paul and his son arrive to Heat game wearing Dwyane Wade gear

Chris Paul has hardly deflected from the fact that Thursday night’s game against the Miami Heat will always hold a special place in his heart.

It almost comes as no surprise, then, that the Houston Rockets superstar and his young son showed up to Toyota Center paying homage to Dwyane Wade.

Wade is in the thick of a farewell tour commemorating his final NBA season, which the future Hall of Famer has dubbed #TheLastDance. It reached a high point on Wednesday night, when Wade banked-in an off-balance three-pointer as time expired to give the Heat a 126-125 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Thursday’s tilt between the Rockets and Heat will always be remembered by Paul and Wade even if similar theatrics are unlikely to come. Paul is even skipping a planned rest day for the opportunity to play against one of his best friends for the last time.

He explained the nature of his relationship with Wade on Wednesday to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle:

“D-Wade, I mean he is a brother to me,” Paul said. “Everything, from the injury he had, we all went to Chicago and worked out with him, to my wedding, his wedding, birth of our kids. We say it all the time, but we’re not just NBA friends. There’s a lot of guys in this league that are just teammates or NBA friends. But we all are a lot closer than that.”

The Heat, needing every win they can get to keep pace at the bottom of the Eastern Conference playoff race, and Rockets tip off at 8:00 p.m. EST from Toyota Center.
