Rockets SG James Harden has made 169 more free throws than field goals in his career

James Harden, Rockets

Entering Friday, Houston Rockets star shooting guard James Harden has made 169 more free throws than field goals in his NBA career, via Basketball-Reference.

James Harden has made 5,047 free throws and 4,878 field goals in his 10-year career with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Rockets entering Friday. When you compare those numbers to the likes of Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant, the contrast is mind-boggling.

James Harden has averaged double-digit free-throw attempts five times in his career. His ability to draw fouls is unmatched by anyone in the NBA. A lot of players don’t like it, as they feel the reigning MVP flops and initiates the contact, but it’s clear by looking at the numbers that whatever he is doing is working to his advantage.

Harden is averaging 30.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game this season. The six-time All-Star is shooting 44.8 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from beyond the arc and 83.8 percent from the free-throw line. The Beard scored 50 points Thursday night against the Los Angeles Lakers and also registered a triple-double.

If this trend keeps up for his entire career, James Harden will be the first superstar player to make more free throws than field goals. It’s not pretty basketball, but no one in Houston is complaining about it.
