Rockets’ Russell Westbrook was hosting a comedy show in Oklahoma when trade was announced

Russell Westbrook, Rockets, Thunder

In what was potentially the final bit of earth-shattering news of the NBA offseason, the Houston Rockets traded for Russell Westbrook by shipping away Chris Paul and a smattering of future first-round draft picks. In the deal, the Rockets sent out Chris Paul to the Oklahoma City Thunder to make salaries work and this makes Houston one of the most intriguing teams in the entire NBA.

In a rather amusing twist of fate, Westbrook was hosting a pop-up comedy show in Tulsa, Oklahoma when the trade was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Here’s Westbrook’s original post regarding the comedy show.

The NBA is certainly one of the amusing and entertaining reality shows around, and this stellar piece of irony really makes one say: “Why not?”

Why not pair two of the most ball-dominant players in NBA history on the same team? Though the fit might not be ideal, there can be no questions about Westbrook’s effort level when he’s on the court. As the only player in NBA history to average a triple-double in three consecutive seasons, Russ surely knows how to pile up stats.

Furthermore, Harden is coming off of a virtuoso season in which he pushed hard for his second MVP award, reeling off a staggering number of 30-point games in a row – matching and surpassing multiple records along the way.

Let’s hope this move doesn’t end up being a comedy of errors for the Rockets, as reuniting Westbrook and Harden in Houston is a fascinating story in and of itself.
