Rockets’ Russell Westbrook hits 20,000 career points vs Lakers
Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook notched his 20,000th point against the Los Angeles Lakers in their matchup at Staples Center on Thursday.
His accomplishment was acknowledged by NBA TV on Twitter, as the pair of Western Conference rivals engaged in a tight battle.

Russell Westbrook, who hails from Long Beach, California, has had his fair share of battles against his hometown team throughout his 11-year career with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Now on his first season with the Rockets after getting traded in the offseason, Russ continues to bring his A-game whenever facing the Purple and Gold. The Lakers did get the better of Houston in their first encounter of the season last month.
LA came away with a 124-115 road win at the Toyota Center. Westbrook pitched in a near triple-double of 39 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in a losing effort.
Both the Lakers and Rockets are strong contenders to emerge out of the highly-competitive murder’s row of Western Conference teams. The Lakers still have the best record in the West, accumulating a 38-11 win-loss slate.
Entering Thursday’s match, the Rockets have finally shrugged off their struggles and are on a three-game winning streak. With a win, they can separate themselves with the Utah Jazz for fourth place in the standings, as they share an identical 32-18 record.
Russell Westbrook, meanwhile, has been doing it all for Houston as of late. He’s been a pillar of consistency for the team amid his fellow superstar James Harden’s struggles shooting the ball. Westbrook, who was chosen as an All-Star reserve this season, is tallying 26.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.6 steals in 42 games.
