Rockets’ Russell Westbrook dismisses Lakers before playoff matchup

Russell Westbrook, Lakers, Rockets

Russell Westbrook recently shared his thoughts on the Houston Rockets’ upcoming matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Semifinals.

The former MVP responded in a very Russell Westbrook manner, basically saying that he does not care:

The Lakers are the heavily-favored side in this second-round series. On paper, they have the stronger squad, and most pundits have them advancing to the next round in five or six games. Westbrook is obviously having none of this.

For Westbrook, it’s all about taking control of the things that he can. There’s pretty much nothing he or the Rockets can do with regards to LA’s preparations for the series, so instead of worrying about that, Westbrook would much rather focus on how Houston can be the best version of themselves when they face off against LeBron James and company.

Westbrook has not exactly found his form in the playoffs as of yet. The 31-year-old missed Houston’s first four contests in the first round against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to injury. He was able to suit up for Games 5 through 7, but has been putting up so-so numbers with 14.7 points (on 41.7 percent shooting), 6.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.

All that will be thrown out of the window in the next round, however, with both Westbrook and the Rockets given a clean slate. Westbrook will need to be at his very best, though, if he hopes to give the Rockets a fighting chance against a powerhouse Lakers team.
