Rockets’ Russell Westbrook clears the air about animated conversation with James Harden

Houston Rockets All-Star Russell Westbrook took some time to clear the air about the animated conversation he had with teammate James Harden during Thursday night’s regular-season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks.

It was early in the first quarter and the Rockets were leading, 17-5. Play was stopped due to a called foul. During the short break in action, Harden and Westbrook became engaged in an energetic conversation:

At the time, it wasn’t clear what the two stars were discussing. However, Westbrook elaborated on the conversation during his postgame media availability:

Though they led for much of the game, the Rockets fell to the Bucks, 117-111. Westbrook played pretty well, notching 24 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field (3-of-7 from beyond the arc), 16 rebounds, seven assists, two steal and one block.

Harden, on the other hand, struggled to find a shooting rhythm. The Beard had 19 points and a team-high 14 assists, but he went 2-of-13 from the field and 1-of-8 from the 3-point line. To be fair, though, he knocked down all 14 of his attempts at the free-throw line.

Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni isn’t worried:

“They’re going to be fine,” D’Antoni told ESPN following Thursday night’s loss. “It’s sad to say, but we’re not going to win 82 games this year. Now we’ve got a chance to win 81.”

The Rockets will be back in action on Saturday night, when they’ll welcome the New Orleans Pelicans to town. Tip-off inside the Toyota Center is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
