With a bevy of scorers on its roster, the Houston Rockets have a built a powder-keg offense that can explode at any point in the game. Unfortunately for the Utah Jazz, that deadly Rockets offense blew on their faces in the fourth quarter of Monday’s 120-99 loss at Toyota Center. It was the Rockets’ 14th win in a row.
The Rockets were on the ropes at the start of the fourth quarter, trailing Utah by five points. The Jazz even went up by as many as eight points early in the period on a Thabo Sefolosha basket with just under nine minutes remaining on the game clock. After that, it was the Eric Gordon and the Rockets show, as Houston mounted a soul-crushing 37-8 run that essentially turned a close contest into a massive blowout victory for the home team.
Overall, the Rockets outscored the Jazz in the fourth quarter, 41-15. If that sounds uncannily huge, it’s because it’s the biggest fourth-quarter differential in Houston’s franchise history. The previous largest fourth-quarter winning margin for the Rockets happened in 2005, when they put up 41 points in the payoff period as against the Phoenix Suns’ 17 markers, per Basketball Reference.
Eric Gordon scored 15 of his season-high 33 points in the fourth quarter, hitting five 3-pointers to spark the Rockets’ come-from-behind victory.
