Rockets point guard Chris Paul to play, Eric Gordon out vs. Spurs

Chris Paul, Eric Gordon

After he missed the Houston Rockets’ 114-107 victory over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night, star point guard Chris Paul is expected to start tonight on the road against the San Antonio Spurs. However, Tim MacMahon of ESPN also tweeted that potential NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award candidate Eric Gordon will be out tonight with a back injury.

Gordon will surely be missed, as the veteran guard is averaging 19.1 points and 2.5 assists per game this season in head coach Mike D’Antoni’s explosive lineup.

Paul had been dealing with a quad issue, which caused him to sit out of the Rockets’ win over the Magic at Toyota Center. For a good chunk of the 2017-18 season, Paul has dealt with his fair share of injuries but has still put up very good numbers when he’s been on the court. In 31 games started this season for Houston, Paul is averaging 19.4 points, 8.6 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game in roughly 32.1 minutes of action per contest.

The veteran point guard did have a front-row seat to watch superstar guard James Harden make NBA history, as the Arizona State University product become the first ever player to record a 60-point triple-double.

Paul even video-bombed Harden’s live interview after Tuesday night’s game.

“Sheesh! Boy just got 60 and a triple-dub! Yeah!” Paul said as Harden laughed in the background. “MVP! Yeah! Yeah!”

Surely these two are ecstatic to be back together in the starting lineup, even if it was just for one game. The Rockets are looking to win their third game in a row tonight and improve on their 36-13 record.
