Having made some moves to bolster this league-leading roster, Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni expects some sacrifices to be made, as the team enters the last stretch of the NBA season.
Starters like Ryan Anderson have had their roles reduced due to the acquisition of guys like Chris Paul and P.J. Tucker, along with the emergence of Clint Capela as a force in the middle.
“It’s crazy. We’re so deep,” said Anderson, who moved from the starting lineup to coming off the bench two weeks ago, per Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle. “Coach was talking about that. With that, what lineups do you play? There’s going to be some adjustment for that. Everybody can play. Obviously, our new guys, they’re fitting into the system really easily, really well. It’s crazy how much talent we have. This is by far the most talented team I’ve played on.”
The Rockets recently added more to their three-and-D mold, including veteran sharpshooter Joe Johnson and veteran shot-blocker Brandan Wright — two cogs who can help the team, but will have to do so while divvying up minutes with their teammates for the near future, eventually resulting in a shorter rotation.
“It’s about winning a championship right now,” said Anderson. “Twenty-five games left and then the playoffs. We just want to win a championship. That’s what matters the most right now.”
Houston has all the momentum coming off the All-Star break, with a league-high 10-game win streak and firing in all cylinders with a bunch that is determined to lock up the No. 1 seed.
