Rockets players feel ‘very positive’ about looming Carmelo Anthony addition

The Houston Rockets had just inked center Clint Capela to a five-year, $90 million deal, fortifying their Big 3 for the foreseeable future. Next order of business for Houston is to surround Capela, Chris Paul, and James Harden with more weapons.

One of the NBA’s worst secrets right now is Carmelo Anthony’s team when opening night arrives. He had just been officially traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Atlanta Hawks, where he is expected to be bought out eventually. When that happens, the long-time scoring machine will be joining the Rockets, something that he has made known publicly.

Anthony’s resume may be Hall of Fame worthy, but it could not save his short-lived career in Oklahoma City. The decline in his game became more evident and a recent oddsmaker even had the Rockets’ title hopes drop with Anthony’s looming addition.

But despite all these, Anthony donning a Rockets jersey remains eagerly anticipated in Houston’s front, per Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic.

Btw. With Capela coming back. Next would be signing Carmelo once he’s officially through the waiver process. If there was any question about how #Rockets players feel about Melo, one source told me the players feel “very positive” about him joining. Know what he can bring.

The Rockets, after topping the NBA’s regular season, were one Chris Paul injury away from reaching the NBA Finals and perhaps even winning the championship. They got two things going for them in the event that Anthony gets added: Chris Paul and Mike D’Antoni.

Paul is one of the league’s best leaders and he’s also good friends with Anthony. On the other hand, D’Antoni coached the small forward back in New York. Although their relationship became too toxic back then, the promise of a real shot at a championship could make Anthony buy into whatever role D’Antoni has for him in Houston’s high-octane offense.
