Rockets’ PJ Tucker says he doesn’t need to make an All-Defensive team to know how good he is

Houston Rockets forward PJ Tucker is one of the best defenders in the NBA, but he’s never made an All-Defensive team in his career.

Tucker says it would be nice to make an All-Defensive team, but that he doesn’t care because he knows how good he is on the defensive end of the floor.

“I guess it’d be cool but I don’t need it,” Tucker told Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic. “I just do my job. I don’t need praise by being on the All-Defensive Team or blah blah. People know what I do. Coaches around the league know what I do. People know what I do. That’s all that matters to me.”

Players and coaches around the league know how elite PJ Tucker is on defense. He’s only 6-foot-6, but Tucker can guard positions one through four at a very high level.

Will Tucker’s stats jump off the page? No. He’s averaging 7.3 points per game this season for the Rockets while shooting 39.7 percent from the field and 37.8 percent from beyond the arc.

But the Rockets players and coaches see what kind of impact Tucker has on a nightly basis, especially when they are watching film. They see a guy who is yelling out screens and calling switches. He’s the anchor of Houston’s defense.
