Rockets’ PJ Tucker reveals why he never considered dropping out of Orlando games

PJ Tucker, Rockets

During an interview with Mark Berman of Fox 26 KRIV, Houston Rockets power forward PJ Tucker talked about why he never considered dropping out of the Orlando games.

Even though he understands the risks of playing in Florida, Tucker is excited to play basketball again after such a long layoff due to COVID-19.

Tucker and the Rockets have already virtually clinched a spot in the 2020 playoffs. The team will use its eight seeding games to knock off the rust before the 2020 postseason begins.

For the eight seeding games, the Rockets will face the Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers and Philadelphia 76ers.

Tucker, the best defender on the Rockets, appeared in 64 games for the club this season before Utah Jazz All-Star Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 and games were suspended in March. PJ was averaging 7.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 43.3 percent from the field, 37.0 percent from beyond the arc and 84.1 percent from the free-throw line.

As everyone in Houston knows, Tucker’s defense and corner 3-point shooting are critical for the Rockets. Especially his defensive skills since he will be tasked to guard opposing centers in Orlando due to the Clint Capela trade.

The Rockets fully guaranteed Tucker’s salary for 2020-21. The swingman will make $7,969,537 next season, the final year of his contract. With that said, don’t be surprised if Houston tries to extend Tucker in the summer since he’s such a valuable member of the team.
