Rockets’ PJ Tucker opening sneaker boutique in Houston

PJ Tucker of the Houston Rockets, who’s known to have the best shoe collection in the NBA, is opening a sneaker boutique in Houston later this year.

Tucker shared the good news last week in an Instagram question and answer session with Nice Kicks. According to the Rockets center, he’s opening shop in October, noting that ‘a lot of dope collabs’ are slated.

“We’re looking to do the grand opening in October,” Tucker said, per Nick dePaula of ESPN. “We’ve got a lot of dope collabs coming. We’re going to have some fun with it, and I’m excited about that.”

The 34-year-old himself has lost count on how many pairs he owns. But in an interview last year, he estimated it to be over a thousand. He also claims to have worn six pairs of shoes in a single game.

The Rockets defensive ace is just one among the many NBA athletes who have invested in the shoe business. Former NBA players such as Bobby Simmons, Derrick Williams, and Derek Anderson have their own shoe shops. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has been a co-owner of the Miami-based UNKNWN boutique since 2011.

Tucker has been living in Houston since 2017. Apart from his love for sneakers, another reason why he decided to open a shop is that the city needs more activity.

“The shoe culture in Houston is cool,” he said. “There’s a lot of sneakerheads and a lot of people that love shoes here — a lot more than I thought. … I just think there should be more activity.”

The store’s location has yet to be disclosed but The Better Generation Instagram account has been created.
