Rockets’ PJ Tucker not expected to be included on any Jimmy Butler trade scenario

PJ Tucker, Jimmy Butler, Rockets, Sixers

Veteran forward PJ Tucker will likely stay even if the Houston Rockets decide to trade for Jimmy Butler.

The Rockets are strongly interested in acquiring Butler this offseason. Butler will become an unrestricted free agent next month, but Houston cannot sign him outright because of their lack of cap space this summer. However, the Rockets could acquire the superstar guard in a sign-and-trade deal with the 76ers.

According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets are not expected to include Tucker in any trade for Butler. However, any deal for Butler might force the Rockets to part ways with veteran guard Eric Gordon and hulking center Clint Capela.

But to make a sign-and-trade deal feasible, the Rockets have to convince Butler to move to Houston. The Rockets will then need to convince the 76ers to work with them on a sign-and-trade instead of losing the 29-year-old superstar for nothing in free agency.

The 76ers are expected to move heaven and earth to keep Butler in the hope of retaining the core they had last season. The four-time NBA All-Star played 55 games for the 76ers last season after being dealt from the Minnesota Timberwolves. He averaged 18.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists for Philadelphia.
