Rockets PG Chris Paul climbs to 8th spot on all-time assists list

Chris Paul

Houston Rockets All-Star point guard Chris Paul now has the eighth most assists in NBA history. Paul entered Monday with 8,961 career assists. Paul moved past Hall of Famer Gary Payton on Monday. Payton racked up 8,966 assists during his legendary playing career.

The Rockets defeated the Dallas Mavericks at home by a final score of 120-104. Chris Paul finished with 17 points and 11 assists in 29 minutes of action while shooting 5-of-12 from the field and 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. CP3 now has 8,972 career assists.

Chris Paul is now 89 assists behind Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas for seventh place on the all-time assists list. Thomas dished out 9,061 assists with the Pistons.

When it’s all said and done, Paul will go down as one of the best point guards in NBA history. He always has a high assist-to-turnover ratio and is universally recognized as the best floor general of his generation.

The most assists Paul has had in a game is 21. That was back in the 2007-08 season when CP3 was with the New Orleans Hornets. For his career, Paul averages 9.7 assists. He’s averaged at least 7.8 assists in every single season of his career. Paul has also led the league in assists per game four times.
