Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta says ‘nobody works harder than’ James Harden

5/18/19

Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta says “nobody works harder than” superstar shooting guard James Harden.

Fertitta believes other players in the league would have had to take time off if they suffered the neck and wrist injury Harden dealt with this season.

“James is a bull,” Fertitta said, via Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. “When he had his neck problem and his wrist problem, other players would have probably missed six to eight games. James just plays right through it. He’s tough. James is committed to playing basketball. Nobody works harder than James.”

Harden played in 78 games this season for the Rockets. The reigning MVP led the league in scoring again at 36.1 points and scored at least 50 points nine times in the regular season.

The Rockets started the season at 11-14, but once Harden went on that ridiculous scoring tear where he scored at least 30 points in 32 straight games, Houston started to find its form. The Rockets won 53 games and were the fourth seed in the Western Conference playoffs. They lost to the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the playoffs in six games.

This narrative that Harden chokes in the playoffs needs to stop. The Beard averaged 31.6 points in the 2019 playoffs and shot 41.3 percent from the field and 35.0 percent from the 3-point line. The Rockets need to add another dynamic scorer on the roster who can take pressure off of Harden on offense.
