Rockets officially sign Kenneth Faried, will play vs. Sixers

Kenneth Faried, Rockets

The Houston Rockets have made their acquisition of Kenneth Faried official.

The details of Kenneth Faried’s contract weren’t disclosed, but it is expected that he’ll be with the Rockets for the remainder of the season.

The Rockets needed a skilled big man to help them on both ends of the floor, especially since starting center Clint Capela is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after undergoing thumb surgery.

Faried fits that category.

He is expected to play tonight when the Rockets visit the Philadelphia 76ers.

During his first six seasons with the Denver Nuggets, Faried has earned a reputation as an athletic, hardworking big that can be a monster on the boards. However, the arrival of Nikola Jokic made Faried expendable, as the Nuggets preferred a big that can stretch the floor and pass — two things that Jokic has done better.

This left the Nuggets with no choice but to trade Faried to the Brooklyn Nets last year.

However, things did not work out for Faried in Brooklyn either. The Nets, who are in the middle of their rebuilding process, wanted to give a significant amount of minutes and exposure to Jarrett Allen, a young and promising center who is an excellent rim protector. Faried never had a chance to showcase what he can do with the team.

He will have an opportunity to do that in Houston, as he’s expected to fill the void left by Capela.
