Rockets officially acquire Russell Westbrook from Thunder for Chris Paul and two first round picks

The Houston Rockets have officially acquired superstar point guard Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Chris Paul and two protected first round picks.

Westbrook is reuniting with James Harden on the Rockets. The two were teammates on the Thunder and are very close friends off the court.

Russell Westbrook and James Harden have both won MVP awards. Westbrook has averaged a triple-double three seasons in a row, while Harden has led the NBA in scoring the past two seasons.

The Rockets now have two of the best players in NBA history on their squad. Over the past five seasons, Westbrook, Harden and LeBron James are the only players to have averaged at least 25.0 points, 8.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds. Harden and Westbrook have also finished in the top-10 for MVP voting in each of the past five seasons, with both placing in the top-five in the same season three times over that span.

The Thunder will eventually retire Westbrook’s No. 0 jersey. He’s the best player in franchise history.

The Rockets are legitimate title contenders with Westbrook next to Harden. It’s going to be fun to watch the two MVPs play together in 2019-20.  The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Utah Jazz and Golden State Warriors are the other title contenders in the Western Conference.
