Rockets news: Josh Smith works out with James Harden, Chris Paul
The Houston Rockets have put forth a concerted effort to reconfigure their roster ahead of this upcoming season that has seen many major changes along the way.
That said, it appears that the Rockets could potentially add a familiar face to the mix with free agent veteran forward Josh Smith. According to David Astramskas of Ballislife.com, Smith had recently taken part in a workout with a few Rockets players that included James Harden and Chris Paul.

The fact that he is working with four players that are all on the Rockets’ current roster will only fuel the notion that he could be headed back to his former team. What also only adds to that belief is that he played alongside Paul two seasons ago with the L.A. Clippers that could give him more comfortable with the idea of playing in Houston again.
The 31-year-old had signed a three-month, $1.5 million deal with the Sichuan Blue Whales of the Chinese Basketball Association last season. He had left the team back in late January after playing in 26 games where he averaged 18.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per contest.
Given the Rockets current salary cap situation, Smith would likely have to agree to play on a deal with the veteran’s minimum annual base salary. His addition would provide more of veteran presence on the roster along with much-needed depth in the front court as an asset off the bench or in the starting lineup.
