The Houston Rockets are enjoying a great summer, knowing that they’ll enter the 2017-18 season with a restocked and fortified roster that now features a deadly backcourt combo of Chris Paul and James Harden.
But it’s not always going to be this much fun for the Rockets, as they found out Wednesday night that their Eurostash, Sergio Llull, suffered a serious knee injury while playing for the Spanish national team. A video of Llull’s bad break was posted on Twitter by Sportando.

A few hours later, international basketball authority David Pick revealed details about the injury.

The Rockets have been eyeing to bring Llull to the NBA for quite some time now. Llull was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft before the Rockets bought his draft rights from Denver. The Spanish guard has been regarded as one of the best players not playing in the NBA. He has been playing for Euroleague club Real Madrid since 2007 and has just been recently named as the 2017 Euroleague MVP in a season that saw him average 16.3 points and 5.6 assists per game, per Basketball-Reference.
Llull is under contract with Real Madrid until 2021, but Rockets general manager Daryl Morey isn’t losing hope of someday adding the Spaniard to Houston’s roster despite being rejected a number of times. In a guest appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast. Morey was quoted by Euroleague reporter Austin Pick saying he’s offered several deals to Llull before but to no avail.

Llull’s knee injury, however, puts a dent to any immediate plans of him playing basketball, let alone be part of the Rockets.
