Rockets news: Hakeem Olajuwon calls Tilman Fertitta ‘perfect fit’

Hakeem Olajuwon

The Houston Rockets have been sold recently to local billionaire Tilman Fertitta for a record price of $2.2 billion. While having a new ownership team could change the direction and disrupt the success of a franchise, one of their best players of all time thinks otherwise.

Hakeem Olajuwon, who spent 17 seasons with the Rockets, was recently asked to give his thoughts about Fertitta taking over the team. He made it known, via Mark Berman of Fox 26, that he believes Leslie Alexander made the right decision on who to sell it to as he thinks the team will be in good hands with its new owner. He also added that the communities being helped by the Rockets will continue to receive support from them and that the deal turned out to be a win-win situation for all parties involved.

During his days in Houston, Olajuwon led the team to back-to-back championships in 1994 and 1995. He is widely considered as one of the best players to ever play the game and has won almost all awards the league has to offer, including regular season and Finals MVP, Defensive Player of the Year twice, and was named an All-Star 12 times in his illustrious career.

Last season, the Rockets made it to the second round of the playoffs, with James Harden finishing second in the MVP balloting. Now with Chris Paul in their fold and key pieces added to the roster as well, they are geared to make a deeper run in the playoffs. If their stars can co-exist on the floor and have good chemistry, they may just surprise many by toppling the defending champion Golden State Warriors, and could even win it all next season.
