Rockets news: GM Daryl Morey says it will be hard to do nothing at trade deadline

The Houston Rockets have had a sensational season thus far, and sit in the second spot in the Western Conference playoff picture. The Rockets are making noise as possibly the only team that could knock off the defending champion Golden State Warriors this year.

One of the major reasons the Rockets have been so good is their roster, which was built by general manager Daryl Morey. He has constantly gotten big-name free agents to join the team, building a true championship contender over the least few years.

But this season just before the trade deadline, Morey does not anticipate making any big trades, and actually finds that it will be difficult not to do so, per Johnathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

“It’s going to be hard to do anything,” Morey said. “When our guys are healthy, we have lost (once.) Obviously, my job is my job. I’m pretty cognizant I have something special right now.”

Morey has become famous for making big splashes and getting star players, whether it was James Harden, Dwight Howard or Chris Paul. But it appears Morey will stand pat at the trade deadline this year.

“We’re very focused on this year,” Morey said. “There’s very few times in anyone’s career you get as close as we are right now and we recognize that.”

Morey is a smart executive, and he won’t make moves he feels he doesn’t need. This season, the team has plenty of pieces to contend for a title, and Morey is right to let this group see what it can do.
