Rockets news: Eric Gordon to defend his title at the 3-point contest

Eric Gordon

Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon will participate in All-Star Saturday as defending champion of the 2018 JBL Three-Point Contest. The report came via Scott Agness of Vigilant Sports.

Gordon won last year’s contest when he beat out Kyrie Irving for the title in a thrilling final round that saw both players score 20 points each. In the tie-breaker, both players shot the ball well but it was Gordon who was better as he scored 21 points to Irving’s 18.

Additionally, Gordon had the highest points in any round during the contest as he registered 25 points in the first round while Irving had 20. The two advanced to the final round with the best scores among a pool of eight players. Other participants included Kemba Walker, Nick Young, Klay Thompson, Wesley Matthews, C.J. McCollum, and Kyle Lowry.

The Rockets’ three-point attack is one of the most lethal scoring weapons in the NBA. As a team, they average 15.7 three-pointers made, shooting at a 36.4% clip. Gordon is one of their primary marksmen from deep with the shooting guard making 136 three-pointers so far this season. That’s good for fourth place in the entire NBA behind teammate James Harden (156), Thompson (154), and Wayne Ellington (140).

In three-point attempts, no one hoists it up more than Gordon who leads the league in three-point field goal attempts at 412 total.

For the season, Gordon is averaging 19.5 points on a modest 33.3% three-point percentage.

The Three-Point Contest will be held on Saturday, February 16th at 8 PM ET.
