Rockets news: Eric Gordon shared memories of being traded for now-teammate Chris Paul

Houston Rockets teammates Chris Paul and Eric Gordon had crossed paths at a key point in their careers. Paul was making his way out of the New Orleans Hornets after six seasons with the team and Gordon was coming off his best season yet, averaging a promising 22.3 points per game for the L.A. Clippers in his third year in the league.

The two were traded for each other on the infamous offseason of 2011, when Paul’s deal to the Los Angeles Lakers was nixed by former commissioner David Stern, opening a path for Paul to come to the Clippers and change the scope of history for the last six years.

“It’s crazy,” Gordon told Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle. “We talked about it all summer. We went through that trade. Now, we’re here as teammates. But I think we’re both in a great situation where we really have a chance to win a championship. This is probably the best team both have us have been on.”

Gordon never saw an opportunity to lead a team like he did for that 2010-11 team and settled as a key role player after suffering many injuries since then, culminating in his Sixth Man of the Year award this offseason.

Paul excelled as the leader of the Lob City Clippers alongside Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, but was still unable to get past the second round of the playoffs — the reason that brought him to Houston this summer.
