Rockets news: Daryl Morey thinks Houston can give Warriors a really good series
With the ever-changing landscape of today’s NBA, the Houston Rockets’ acquisition of All-Star point guard Chris Paul largely flew under the radar. Despite a season in which All-Star guard James Harden finished second in MVP voting, the Rockets went out and got perhaps the best pure point guard in the league.
While it may seem a bit strange to make a potential league MVP switch positions after one year, having arguably two of the NBA’s best floor generals could give them a better shot at knocking off the Golden State Warriors in the upcoming 2017-18 NBA season. At least, that’s the hope for Rockets owner Daryl Morey, according to Luke Adams of HoopsRumors:
“I’d say we feel much better. We went from feeling not so good – which I think 29 teams in the league should feel like considering the Warriors obviously are the class of the league – to feeling spunky. We’re feeling like if we can pull this together, get our habits right on offense and defense, execute, that we can give one of the best teams of all time a very, very good series.”
There is no doubt that Paul brings a huge boost to Houston’s already talented squad. After failing to move the L.A. Clippers past the second-round of the playoffs time and time again, he decided the Rockets would give him the best chance at a Western Conference Finals appearance.
Unfortunately, the notion of defeating the Warriors in a seven-game series is a bit far-fetched for any team at this point. However, Morey’s careful word choice may imply that the Rockets could be looking to make another blockbuster move in the near future.
