Rockets news: Clint Capela credits teammates responding well to his defensive calls

Clint Capela, Rockets

After Game 2, many were wondering what was exactly wrong with the Houston Rockets. The Utah Jazz had their way with them on the offensive end it led to a bad loss and the series back to being all evened up. Despite that, people have taken notice of Houston big Clint Capela.

The Rockets knew going into Game 3 that the offense obviously needed to be better but that wasn’t as much of a concern as the defense was. If the defense didn’t get any better, it might be another long night of basketball in Salt Lake City.

Good thing for the Rockets, the defense was a lot better, especially during the first half. They gave up only 40 points in the first half and a total of 92 in the game on the way to a really easy victory.

On the defensive end of the floor, the play starts with center Clint Capela, as he is the leader of the defense, and calls out all the play. He told Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle that he knew from early on that is was going to be a good day.

“Every call that I was making, they were all responding well to it. This is when I really felt that confidence on defense. Whenever I made the call, they were just reacting to it. I was like, “OK, it’s going to be a good night tonight.”

Capela only scored 11 points on the night, but his most important contributions were on the defensive end. He had four blocked shots and a couple of steals and he did a good job setting a tone early, and doing his part to take the crowd out of it.

If the Rockets want to take the series, then presumably challenged the Golden State Warriors, Capela will have to continue to be a monster.
