Rockets news: Chris Paul will not say if he favors 2018 NBA All-Star Game draft to be made public

Chris Paul

The NBA has implemented an entirely new format for the 2018 All-Star Game with the use of a draft selection process for the players selected to the contest.

However, NBA commissioner Adam Silver has been against televising the actual draft process on behalf of the players voicing their concern that it could cause some personal conflict. With that in mind, Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul has stated that he has spoken to Silver about it but didn’t reveal what he expressed to him in their meeting, according to Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver has been opposed, despite the clamoring to have the selections

Asked if he expressed his opinion, Paul said, “Yup.” Asked if he would share what he said, Paul said, “Nope.”

Paul is considered as influential among union membership as any player, but would not say if the Players’ Association was opposed to making the selections public, or even televising them, or if it followed his recommendations when the format was changed.

“I don’t know,” Paul said. “They know (his opinion.)”

Although Paul was not selected as a starter, he is likely headed toward his 10th time being selected to the contest. At this juncture, the 32-year-old will be a part of the new selection process but will have no clue of when he was taken in the draft only what team he will play for next month.

Paul does have some pull as he is the President of the Players’ Association that gives him the ability to speak on the behalf of the rest of the players. His voice does hold significant weight in either pushing for a change to the selection process or further cementing that it doesn’t need to be televised.

Ultimately, the closer that it gets to the 2018 All-Star Game, the clearer it will become to what the league will decide to do with the selection process.
