Rockets news: Chris Paul questionable with groin soreness

The Houston Rockets have listed point guard Chris Paul as questionable with groin soreness, head coach Mike D’Antoni told Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle.

“I just want to make sure it is 100 percent,” said D’Antoni. “We just want to be careful with it. But it’s nothing alarming. If it stays sore, we’ll figure it out tomorrow and go to the next day. But we’ll make sure there’s no soreness.”

The Rockets have already had to withstand the opening part of this season without their floor general on the court, and will be utmost careful when it comes to injuries that could keep him out long term.

Several players have missed within two weeks to a month with groin injuries this season and D’Antoni will rather cut his losses for a pair of games than several weeks, if Paul risks further injury.

Paul is posting eye-popping numbers through 31 games this season, averaging 19.4 points and 8.6 assists per game, shooting a career-best 92.1 percent from the foul line and making a career-high 2.7 3-pointers per game on a 40 percent clip.

His injury could put the ball back in James Harden’s hands, and another spot start for Eric Gordon at the two-guard.

The Rockets, when healthy, have been near-unstoppable, going 16-1 when their opening day starting lineup of Paul, Harden, Trevor Ariza, Ryan Anderson, and Clint Capela all nod starts.

But sadly, this lineup has only played in 17 of the Rockets’ 48 games this season, as D’Antoni has been forced to make adjustments through the season, sporting a second-best overall record of 35-13 on this 2017-18 campaign.
