Rockets news: Chris Paul on Carmelo Anthony’s decision to join Thunder

Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul

After a summer filled of trade offers for Carmelo Anthony coming from his new team, the Houston Rockets and Chris Paul will ultimate see his Jordan Brand mate across the floor tonight when they face the Oklahoma City Thunder in this preseason opener.

Just like the Rockets managed to lure Paul away from the L.A. Clippers, the Thunder swept the rug from under most contenders in the NBA, snatching not only Paul George but Anthony prior to the start of training camp.

“He is where he is now and he’s happy,” Paul told Erik Horne of The Oklahoman, noting he’s not surprised by much in the NBA anymore.

Instead of heading into this preseason with three All-Stars, it is OKC who now boast a three-headed monster in this war of attrition that the Western Conference has become over the last few years.

The Rockets boast one of the best backcourts in the league on paper, but may potentially face the consequences of a hollowed out roster after trading half of their team’s assets for Paul early in the offseason.

Houston went out on six games against the San Antonio Spurs last postseason during the Western Conference semifinals. They will reload now with an MVP runner-up and a bonafide dime wizard who has made the playoffs the last seven years and nine of his 12 seasons in the league.
