Rockets’ Mike D’Antoni says he’s the only one who can stop James Harden

Houston Rockets superstar James Harden has been an unstoppable force this season, as he has his sights set on his second consecutive season MVP award.

Recently, Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni revealed his personal theory on how he thinks Harden can be stopped. According to the 67-year-old coach, he believes that he is the only person capable of stopping his All-Star guard.

“Me. I can sit him on the bench,” D’Antoni said when asked about who he thinks is capable of preventing Harden from going on his nightly rampage, via USA Today. “That’s about it.”

Well, given how Harden has been on an absolute tear all season long, it’s actually hard to argue against coach D’Antoni here.

Harden was his usual dominant self yet again on Friday, as he led the Rockets to a 111-105 victory against the San Antonio Spurs. The 29-year-old matched his career-high mark in scoring against the Spurs, dropping 61 points on 19-of-34 shooting. He also logged nine three-pointers, seven rebounds, an assist, and three steals en route to one of his best performances of the season.

The Rockets have improved to 46-27 with this win, and are currently still holding on to the third spot in the West. The Portland Trail Blazers, however, are hot on their tracks, and are just one game behind at fourth.

Harden and company will have the night off Saturday, but will be back in action on Sunday as they take on the New Orleans Pelicans.
