Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni and general manager Daryl Morey have offered no comments on reports that team officials sat down with Carmelo Anthony to discuss his role and future with the team. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported about this meeting, but the Rockets have yet to give an official statement on it.
Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan Feigen reported on the situation, including the fact that veteran Eric Gordon and rookie Gary Clark have been given more playing minutes than Anthony during Houston’s recent games.
Those two factors could severely cut Anthony’s playing time, as the Rockets evaluate how to deal with that.

To be fair to Anthony, the Rockets’ woes do not entirely fall on his shoulders. The team knew they already paid a steep price when they replaced defensive ace Trevor Ariza with Anthony.
To make matters worse, some important players haven’t been playing quite well. James Harden is committing 5.0 turnovers per game while shooting just 41 percent from the field, his lowest since his first year in the league. Chris Paul is also shooting a career-low 39 percent from the field and a woeful 29 percent clip from beyond the arc.
The team’s offseason acquisitions of James Ennis and Michael Carter-Williams aren’t living up to expectations as well. The only real bright spot for the Rockets right now is young center Clint Capela, who is averaging career highs in points, rebounds, and assists.
Maybe the reason why D’Antoni and Morey have been tight-lipped is they are still figuring things out. Either way, this Rockets team needs to turn things around quickly.
