Rockets’ Mike D’Antoni admits having Chris Paul, James Harden makes his job a lot a easier

After wrapping up their first-round matchup in five games against the Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni admitted that his job has been a lot easier due to Chris Paul and James Harden’s efforts.

In a post-game conference, D’Antoni commended Paul for his basketball smarts. He added that having Paul and Harden — two of the best point guards in the NBA — on the same team allows him to step back and not over-coach.

To recall, Paul joined the Rockets in 2017 via a blockbuster trade. Some analysts downplayed the impact of the trade, noting that Paul — who was 32-years-old during that time, was already past his prime.

In addition, some believe that it would be impossible for him to coexist with Harden who showed promise in playing the point guard spot since D’Antoni took over in 2016.

But as Paul put on the Rockets jersey, analysts quickly deemed that the two had perfect chemistry. Paul shared point guard duties with Harden. But he wisely took a step back and let Harden — who’s well within his prime — to play his own game.

So far, their tandem has resulted in a 65-win and a 53-win regular seasons. In the playoffs, they’ve reached the Western Conference Finals last year.

This year, they’re back in the Western Conference Semifinals and are bent on winning their first championship ring.
