Rockets’ Kenneth Faried expected to be available vs. Sixers

Kenneth Faried, Rockets

Although he hasn’t officially signed with the Houston Rockets, power forward Kenneth Faried is expected to be available to play on Monday against the Philadelphia 76ers, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Kenneth Faried was waived by the Brooklyn Nets on Jan. 19, and the eight-year veteran will sign with Houston once the team opens up a roster spot:

The Rockets are working to trade Carmelo Anthony to open up that spot, otherwise they’ll likely just release James Nunnally, who was just signed to a 10-day contract.

The Rockets will be without starting center Clint Capela for approximately four to six weeks. Capela had successful surgery on his right thumb last week after suffering ligament damage, so the Rockets were in need of frontcourt help. Kenneth Faried fits that bill.

Faried only appeared in 12 games with the Nets this year. Brooklyn acquired him over the summer in a trade with the Denver Nuggets. The 29-year-old averaged 5.1 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 59.5 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Kenneth Faried should fit in well in Houston. He’s an athletic rim-roller who can do some similar things that Capela does for the Rockets. Faried has career averages of 11.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and an assist in 453 NBA games.

The Rockets enter Monday with a record of 26-19, good for fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Houston is 6-4 in its last 10 games.
